Living with persistent mental health symptoms can be exhausting. If you are seeking relief from your symptoms, there are several conditions treated by Leander TMS therapy at our full-service mental health clinic, Cedar Park TMS.

Our caring team uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy primarily for our patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), including treatment-resistant depression. We provide TMS sessions for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) when appropriate by using an FDA-cleared device and protocol. We consider treating patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety disorders on an off-label basis. We offer standard TMS treatment schedules, and our neurocardiac-guided, one-day accelerated TMS therapy is suitable for some patients.

TMS Therapy for MDD

If you have tried two or more antidepressants without meaningful symptom relief or had to stop taking them because of their side effects, TMS therapy can be the next step. Our TMS sessions target the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which is a hub for mood regulation. Many of our Leander patients with MDD tell us they feel steadier energy, improved motivation, and a brighter mood over the course of TMS treatment for this mental health condition. If you need a faster timetable for relieving your MDD symptoms, we can discuss whether accelerated TMS (which consists of 20 sessions in a single day) is right for you and can plan additional maintenance treatments if necessary.

TMS for OCD

OCD is another mental health disorder in Leander that we treat with TMS sessions. We use a device with an FDA-cleared OCD protocol and can integrate neurostimulation into your treatment plan if it is appropriate for your symptoms and medical history. If you choose to undergo TMS therapy for OCD, we will coordinate it with ongoing therapies (such as exposure and response prevention) and will time your sessions to fit in with your broader care plan to help you make consistent progress.

TMS Therapy for PTSD

PTSD can lock your brain into persistent hyper-arousal and avoidance. We sometimes consider off-label TMS therapy for our Leander patients with this condition and typically combine this treatment with trauma-focused psychotherapy. TMS modulates the networks responsible for threat detection and emotion regulation in the brains of people with PTSD. If we decide TMS is the right treatment for you, we will tailor your sessions’ timing and your coil targeting for your comfort and safety.

TMS for Anxiety Disorders

If you suffer from mental health disorders such as generalized anxiety, panic, or social anxiety, we may consider off-label Leander TMS treatments to relieve your symptoms. We will coordinate with your therapist or prescriber so your coping skills and medication plans stay aligned. Whether TMS is a suitable treatment for you will depend on your medical history and a clinical assessment.

FAQs

Does insurance cover TMS therapy?

Insurance often covers standard TMS treatments for depression, depending on your insurance plan and your treatment history. Insurance does not cover our one-day accelerated TMS option. It is a private-pay service, and we offer an interest-free payment plan.

How quickly will you feel better?

Timelines vary. Many of our patients notice changes within days or weeks. Clinical data suggests the potential for rapid improvement in appropriate candidates for our accelerated TMS therapy (Van Rooij et al., 2024).

Can TMS replace psychotherapy or medication?

Not necessarily. We generally use TMS as part of a comprehensive plan that can include psychotherapy, lifestyle strategies, and sometimes medication.

What conditions do we treat with Leander TMS therapy at Cedar Park TMS?

We use TMS therapy to treat MDD, including treatment-resistant depression. We may treat OCD with an FDA-cleared TMS device, and we consider treating PTSD and anxiety disorders on an off-label basis when appropriate.
