What Is the Typical Schedule for SPRAVATO®?

If you are thinking about SPRAVATO® for depression, you probably have some questions about the time commitment. What is the typical schedule for SPRAVATO®? How long does each appointment take? How long will treatment continue overall? Call us today so we can review the schedule with you and explain how the process typically works.

The First Month Is Usually the Most Intensive

Patients begin treatment with the induction phase. During this time, we typically schedule you for SPRAVATO® treatment twice a week for the first four weeks.

That means most people come into the office about eight times during their first month. We space these visits throughout the week to help maintain a consistent treatment response while we monitor how well the medication is working for you.

Each appointment usually lasts about two hours or slightly longer because patients need observation time after using the nasal spray. You cannot drive after treatment, so you will need someone to take you home afterward.

Some people notice emotional improvement fairly early in treatment, while others need several weeks before they begin seeing meaningful changes. Everyone responds differently, which is why regular follow-up and communication with your provider are so important.

What Happens After the First Month?

If SPRAVATO® is helping with symptoms, most patients move to a maintenance phase after the first four weeks. During this stage, we usually reduce your SPRAVATO® treatment to once a week for another month.

After that, many people transition to treatments every other week. Some patients stay on a biweekly schedule long term, while others may need occasional adjustments depending on how stable their symptoms remain.

The overall treatment schedule can vary depending on your response, symptom severity, side effects, and your provider’s recommendations. Depression treatment is rarely the same for every patient, and SPRAVATO® is no exception.

Why Consistency Matters

We emphasize consistency with your SPRAVATO® treatment. Missing appointments or stopping treatment too early may affect how well the medication works for you over time.

That does not mean you will always be in treatment. Some patients eventually space SPRAVATO® treatments further apart once symptoms improve and remain stable. Others continue maintenance care longer as part of their ongoing mental health plan.

Our goal is not just short-term relief. Our goal is to help you maintain emotional stability and improve your overall quality of life.
