Imagine experiencing improved mood, more energy, and increased interest in your daily activities. With Spravato®, patients with treatment-resistant depression or side effects from traditional antidepressants can experience these therapeutic effects.

Patients self-administer the nasal spray Spravato® under medical supervision, and they can use it in addition to an antidepressant. It works by causing growth of new neural branches in your brain’s prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. At Cedar Park TMS, our expert and empathetic team is here to help you understand what to expect during administration and monitoring for Spravato® treatment.

Who Are Ideal Candidates for Spravato®?

Spravato® treatment may be helpful for patients with certain mental health conditions. It may be suitable for people who are experiencing:

Our team at Cedar Park TMS will work with you to determine whether you are a good candidate for Spravato® treatment and explain what you can expect during the application and observation phase.

If you are experiencing symptoms of depression that traditional antidepressants and therapy have not alleviated, Spravato® may be beneficial to you. However, you should not receive this treatment if you are under 18 or have certain heart conditions, high blood pressure, or recent substance abuse issues.

Guided Self-Administration of Spravato®

Our team at Cedar Park TMS will explain what you can expect during the administration phase for Spravato®. We want you to feel comfortable and confident during your treatment, so we will explain each step in detail and take the time to answer all of your questions.

Under the supervision of a provider, you will spray the device into each nostril. You will wait about two minutes and repeat this step according to your prescription—usually two or three sprays in each nostril. The administration of Spravato® typically takes minutes, and you will spend most of your appointment in the observation phase.

After treatment, you may experience side effects, such as mild dissociation, a floating feeling, or temporary blurred vision, which is why we monitor our patients for two hours.

Monitoring After Spravato®Treatment

After self-administering Spravato®, you will remain under observation for two hours. During this time, you may recline, listen to music, read, or practice mindfulness. Our team will check in with you periodically to assess your vital signs.

This monitoring period is important because Spravato® can cause temporary increases in blood pressure, changes in perception, or mild dizziness. Monitoring your vitals during this time minimizes risk and allows you to focus on healing.

Most side effects subside within the two-hour monitoring period. By the following day, you can resume all your regular activities except driving. You should prearrange a ride home on the day of your treatment, as you may experience temporary dizziness.
