Understanding the TMS treatment process can help you make an informed decision about your mental health care. At Cedar Park TMS, we provide personalized, evidence-based treatment designed for your comfort and well-being.
What does a typical treatment course with TMS look like? Here, we answer this question so that you know what to expect prior to beginning your TMS journey.
The typical TMS treatment journey begins with a comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Earthman, who will conduct a detailed assessment of your medical history, prior treatments, and current symptoms to determine if TMS is right for you.
During this visit, we will perform a motor threshold mapping—a process that determines the precise stimulation level your brain needs, to ensure that your treatment is effective and tolerable. Once this 90-minute process is complete, a custom treatment plan is created just for you.
Subsequent sessions are much quicker—lasting around five minutes, with most patients in and out of the office in under 15 minutes. A standard course of TMS at Cedar Park TMS involves 36 sessions over a nine-week period. This includes five sessions per week for six weeks, followed by a tapering phase of two sessions per week for three weeks.
Treatments are non-invasive, medication-free, and performed while you are awake and seated comfortably. A small magnetic coil is placed against your scalp to deliver focused pulses that target the brain areas associated with mood regulation. Most patients describe the sensation as a tolerable tapping—no anesthesia is required, and you can return to your daily routine immediately afterward.
While some individuals notice subtle improvements within the first few weeks, completing the full treatment course will maximize your long-term benefits.
In addition to standard TMS, Cedar Park TMS is one of the few clinics in the country offering accelerated TMS. Here is what a neurocardiac-guided accelerated TMS program course looks like.
This advanced method includes 20 sessions delivered all in one day, as well as personalized targeting using neurocardiac-guided (NCG) technology, which tracks your heart rate to optimize the precision of pulse delivery.
NCG TMS enhances standard treatment by identifying the most effective stimulation sites and intensities using real-time physiological feedback. This offers precision comparable to MRI-guided TMS, but without the cost or invasiveness—leading to a more customized and potentially more effective therapy experience.
